Summit Saloon - Downtowner Menu

Summit Saloon

Now with The Downtowner Menu

One of my biggest complaints of the Downtowner was always the tiny sitting space with huge tables. I've documented this a couple of times. The Downtowner is no longer in its old breeze-way location with the HUGE tables and customers that don't abide by the commonly known rules of not claiming a table before you ordered your food (rude). Instead, the Downtowner Menu lives in the Summit Saloon and Stage. For me, this is a great change. I can find a place to sit, stretch out, and enjoy watching Sportscenter on one of the many tvs while enjoying all that the Downtowner had to offer.

Lately I've been just devouring The Bronx Sub - Grilled turkey breast, capicola, onions, mozzarella cheese & basil pesto mayo on a sub roll for $9.

Nice big sandwich fit for a big fella like myself. Most normal men can't finish this entire sucker in one sitting. Hot turkey and Gabba-Goul, melted Mozz, and the soft hot roll. Freakin fantastic!

The only thing about the Summit is the consistency. I've had this same sandwich a few times now and each time it was different. Once it came without the cheese, once without the mayo. It's still a great sandwich.

You might have noticed the little cup of Mom's mustard in the photo. I highly recommend adding it to everything. Even if you don't put it on the sandwich, you can drink it straight like after Newman chokes down that sprig of broccoli in the Kenny Rodgers Chicken episode. Vial Weed!!!

The Downtowner - Bend Oregon

The Downtowner

It has been a long time since I have written about The Downtowner. With the Speedshop gone, I think the title of Best Sandwich goes to The Downtowner. I do like the food there, I just don't like the seating situation which I've documented many times.

Well, they have ditched the over sized tables but it is still cramped in there. I get annoyed seeing the single diners taking up an entire table. I'd like to see community style tables or a better bar situation for the single diners. Tables are for groups. Take your solo ass back to your office and eat.

A friend and I had lunch at the Downtowner recently and I went for the Club, house style. House style means they put on some of Mom's homemade mustard. A secret recipe that resembles Hickory Farms Sweet Hot mustard.

Oh man! What a meal. I couldn't finish all four sections. Soooo good! The only thing I wish it had was a little avocado. It may be too much though as each bite was quite a mouthful. This is my winter favorite Club since Krista's is closed for the season.

I can't think of a better sandwich shop in Bend. The Downtowner is coming correct.

Downtowner - Bend Oregon

Downtowner

I've visited The Downtowner a few times and have enjoyed it every time. I'll recommend NOT wearing your yankees gear if you do visit. I made the mistake of wearing a yankees hat one time last year....they didn't like it.

After reviewing the menu options and having previously read the review from
the Source Weekly, I had made up my mind. Although I really wanted to try the same pulled pork sandwich, I wanted to offer a different item up for review and what's better than a sandwich with bacon? I want to marry bacon. I think it might be legal in Texas.

For $7.95 you get Turkey, Swiss, avocado spread, and of course Bacon on a Kaiser roll. Genius! The quality and the size was well worth the price. Also served with house chips and a pickle. I couldn't finish this sandwich it was so big. Or it could have been my love of bacon and the fact that they had a Potato Bacon Soup:

Bacon + Potatoes = Crazy Delicious.

I highly recommend both of these dishes but bring your appetite and some caffeine, after a large cup of creamy soup and a huge turkey sandwich I wanted to pass out at my desk. When I go back I might just have to try The Parcells. Can you guess what type of sandwich that would be?

If you guessed Tuna, lets hang out and watch a game. If you still have no idea what I'm talking about, I have an empty spot in my Fantasy Football league, please join it.
