Village Grill - Bend Oregon
Village Grill
I was actually on my way to Bistro POW (stupid name anyhow) when I found out that they are not open for lunch so I walked over to the Village Grill. I'm glad I did.The word on the street is that the Village Grill has some hot ass wings. So I tried some of their honey BBQ as well as some of the hottest wings they have to offer.
Both were delicious but the hot wings were not as hot as I had heard. My companion (who can barely handle the spiciness of catsup) said that these wings were not as hot as the first time he tried them. The honey BBQ was like a meaty lollipop ... it was like candy is what I'm trying to say.
For lunch I was torn between the Village Burger and the Crispy Chicken Wrap. I settled for the burger and again, I think I chose correctly.
The Village Burger was awesome! Two quarter pounder patty's, bacon, thousand island dressing, and two types of cheese! Oh and the fries were great! They reminded me of the Ore-Ida Crispers. Dee-lish!
All this and a pint of Dead Guy Ale and I was ready for some serious nap time. I was also able to play some bar trivia on their new televised trivia system thingys. I won the first round and finished middle of the road on my second attempt. I like the little trivia games where you get to compete against others in the bar answering random questions as they come across the screen in between a ton of ads.
I just wish that they gave you an alcohol swab or something to wipe down those keypads. I don't like the idea of touching those things in between stuffing fries in my mouth.

7What? Got something to say?
Their happy hour pizza deal ain't bad either, but their beer special ($2 Bud) is sad. You open across the street from Deschutes Brewery and your only beer special for happy hour is Bud?
Nice write-up! I'll agree with your assessment of Village Grill - great food, nice atmosphere, overall a great place.
Also, I wanted to let you know that we've linked to your blog on our blog. I thought your coverage on Bend-area restaurants was awesome and something our visitors would definitely find interesting. The blog URL is: http://www.woodhillhomes.net/blog
Although it is a "corporate blog", we do like to include a lot of info about Bend & Redmond events and such.
If you think it's a nice resource, would appreciate a link back :)
Thanks! Have you written about the Ariana Restaurant? Would like to hear your thoughts about that place sometime...
Your photo of the wings makes them look AMAZING! Were they as good as they look?
My favorite fries are crispy and hot, regardless of size.
So, would you say it's "family friendly"? We were hungry for burgers the other night but couldn't figure out where to go with the kids that didn't drive us nuts (Red Robin) and would be open and kid-friendly.
Woodhill, I have one word to describe Ariana: "overrated".
Woody - I have not been to Ariana yet.
Keeneye - you think that photo is good? I didn't like it. It was too dark and I chickened out on the flash this time around. And I think size matters.
Jen - I would take kids there, sure. I recommend getting a booth that has your own tv which you can change the channel on.
The food and beer is decent, but the service is shoddy. I was charged improperly, and when I asked for a printout of my bill, I was told that I was incorrect and I should leave. Later, I called with the same concern of being over charged, and again I was told that I was wrong and was denied any verification or print out of my charges. I called again to speak to a manager, yet somehow I was connected to the same person who over charged me in the first place. Hmmmm. I do not recommed the village grill based upon the poor customer service.
Jen - overrated eh? Honestly, I've heard a lot about it but never have gone. Perhaps I'll steer clear...
Dr. B. - wow at that story...
